LOMBOK

Complete Travel Guide

Lombok is often considered Bali’s quieter sister island. It’s part of the Lesser Sunda Islands and is known for its untouched nature, with spectacular beaches, hidden waterfalls, and a much more authentic atmosphere far from mass tourism.

In the north of the island, you’ll find jungle, volcanoes, and waterfalls like Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep, as well as the impressive Mount Rinjani.

In the south, the landscape changes to white-sand beaches, perfect for surfing and relaxing, such as Selong Belanak, Tanjung Aan, and Kuta Lombok.

Lombok is the perfect destination if you’re looking for incredible landscapes, tranquility, and a more local experience away from crowds.

In this Lombok travel guide we’ll share how to get around Lombok and travel to nearby islands, where to stay depending on the area (north or south), what to do in Lombok, when to visit based on the weather and rainy season, and our personal experience traveling around the island.

Best Time to Visit Lombok

Lombok has a tropical climate, which means it’s warm and humid throughout the year. Daytime temperatures usually range between 26 °C and 32 °C, and nights tend to stay warm as well.

Temperatures don’t vary much between the dry and rainy seasons — the main difference is the amount of rainfall and humidity.

🌞 Dry Season (April – October)

• Sunny and drier days
• Ideal for beaches, trekking, and outdoor activities
• Best months to visit: May, June, and September (fewer tourists)

🌧️ Rainy Season (November – March)

• Higher humidity and frequent rain
• Fewer tourists and lower prices
• Some outdoor activities may be affected

This is a very important factor when choosing when to visit.

Although you might get lucky and experience little rain between November and March, Lombok is a destination centered around beaches, relaxation, and nature, so bad weather can affect your plans quite a bit.

We traveled to Lombok in July, one of the busiest months of the year, and the experience was still amazing. The weather was fantastic and, although there were quite a few tourists in some areas, staying in northern Lombok gave us plenty of peace and quiet. It’s a much less crowded part of the island, perfect for enjoying nature, landscapes, and silence without the crowds.

Our Experience in Lombok

Out of all the destinations we visited in Indonesia, Lombok was our favorite. We absolutely loved it.

The island is much bigger than it first seems, and there’s a huge variety of things to do, from beaches and waterfalls to volcanoes and local villages.

Without a doubt, the highlight of our trip was our accommodation: a beautiful place with incredible views and a very affordable price, which we highly recommend.

We stayed four days in Lombok, and honestly we could have easily stayed longer. It’s a perfect destination both for relaxing and for exploring, without the chaos of more touristy places.
