Choosing where to stay in Bali is key to enjoying your trip. Even though everything may look close on the map, traffic, narrow roads and winding streets make getting around take much longer than you imagine.
Thatās why our recommendation is to divide your trip by areas and change accommodations depending on what you want to explore.
To help you choose the best area, hereās a quick overview of where to stay in Bali:
Quick Guide: Where to Stay in Bali
šāāļø Canggu ā cafĆ©s, surf and social vibe
Where to Stay in Bali
š“ Uluwatu
Famous for its spectacular cliffs, temples, beach clubs, and hidden beaches.
Itās also one of the best surf spots in the world.
We stayed at Tregge Surf Camp UluwatuĀ during the first part of our trip.
The good:
Pool (although youāll probably spend most of your time out exploring).
Breakfast included.
Scooter rentals available on-site.
The downside:
A lot of humidity in the rooms.
Even so, for the area and the price, it was a very good base for exploring the south of the island.

š¾ Ubud
The spiritual and green heart of Bali.
Surrounded by rice fields, temples, waterfalls, and jungle. Thereās no beach here, but youāll find yoga, massages, retreats, and tons of nature.
We chose to end our trip in Ubud to experience a different side of the island.
We stayed at Dewi Putri House: super clean, affordable, and very well located.
Ideal if you want to be in a quiet area but still close to everything.

šāāļø Canggu
The perfect mix of surf beaches, trendy cafƩs, and a young atmosphere.
Healthy food spots, active social life and sunset views with chill music are the norm here.
Itās one of the favorite areas for travelers and digital nomads.
We recommend staying at Melati Bali Homestay (highlighted for its excellent location).

šø Seminyak
More elegant than Canggu and less chaotic than Kuta.
It combines wide beaches, famous beach clubs (like Potato Head or Ku De Ta), and many high-quality restaurants.
A great accommodation option is Sleepwell Seminyak (great location and breakfast included)

š Kuta
This is the area with the most movement and where tourism in Bali first began. It has easy beaches for learning how to surf and lots of nightlife. Itās a good option if youāre prioritizing lower prices.
Itās a good choice if youāre looking for energy and more affordable options.
If youāre looking for good value for money, we recommend Casa Wina Kuta by The Wina Resorts

šļø Nusa Dua
An area of high-end resorts, with very well-maintained beaches, security and zero chaos.
Very peaceful, no scooters, no noise. Ideal if youāre looking for total relaxation.
We recommend Davit Guesthouse Nusa Dua (very well located, close to the beach, and very friendly staff).

š Areas That Are Close to Each Other
To create a more comfortable itinerary, these are the best combinations:
Ubud ā Tegallalang ā Sidemen: Central and northern area, where youāll find rice fields and waterfalls.
Travel time between them: 15ā45 minutes.
Our Advice
Think about which places you want to visit, because often it makes sense to stay a few days in one area and then change accommodations.
We started in Uluwatu for the first few days, and after exploring other islands in Indonesia, we ended our trip in Ubud.
International flights are often cheaper from Bali, which is why we both arrived and departed from there.
ā ļø One Last Important Tip
Even though Bali is affordable and offers tons of options, always read the reviews before booking.
There are incredible places at very good prices, but also some that look much better in photos than they are in reality.
The places we recommend in this guide are the ones we chose based on the best value for money we found during our trip. Theyāre comfortable, clean and well located bases for making the most of the island.
Bali offers a wide range of accommodations, from budget-friendly hostels to luxury villas and 5-star resorts. These recommendations are a great starting point, but you can always adjust based on your travel style and budget.
